Twenty-four-year-old Jesse Welles doesn’t know how long it will be before Water gets her memory back. For her sake, Jesse hopes the answer is never. He knows that she’ll stay so much safer—and happier—that way. And that’s why, as hard as it is, he needs to keep his distance. Because getting too close could flood her with realities better left buried.
The trouble is, water always seems to find its way to the surface.
The top-selling, beloved indie author of Ten Tiny Breaths returns with a new romance about a young woman who loses her memory—and the man who knows that the only way to protect her is to stay away.
Review:
I want to thank NetGalley and Atria books for providing me with an egalley of this book to read and give an honest review, The opinions expressed here are my own.
I've heard many good things about KA Tucker. I even had the chance to have dinner with her during BEA. But I never got to read her books. Why did I wait so long?
The idea of memory forgotten and a woman who refuses to identify as only a Jane Doe gripped me. She uses every clue to pull together her identity. Every character leant this story something new and significant. It was easy to connect with them, easy to relate to them, and, most importantly, easy to have empathy for them. Characters who are fleshed out are the most important part of a story to me. Each character, primary or secondary, had depth. If the author can help me understand the characters, help me feel a pull to them, help me want to know why their story is important, than all other things fall into place. I also enjoyed the romance. There was a rawness to it as well as times when I was just about sure it would not work.
The pacing of this story was spot on. The then and now format was easy to follow and loved how each then and now gave clues along the way helping you pull the story together. Tucker's writing is great.
I enjoyed the plot, with the then and now really lending to understanding it. I will say I kind of saw what was coming from the very beginning but, in all honesty, that did not take away from my enjoyment of the story line.
Overall, I enjoyed this read and I'm happy I dove into KA Tucker's world.
