Marty has terrible luck and she knows exactly why. While working as a housekeeper at the ritzy Grand Palms hotel in Maui, Marty made it a habit to steal small items from the guests. What better way to stick it to the rich snobs they have to clean up after? Marty knows how to turn her luck around — she just has to return all of the items she stole.
When Marty meets Will, a new guest who is staying for the summer, she does the one thing she always promised herself she’d never do — fall for an out-of-towner. But Will’s special, different from the other guests at the hotel. Maybe Marty’s luck is finally turning around.
After a string of misunderstandings and accidents threaten Will and Marty’s relationship, Marty has to find a way to fix her luck for good — or say goodbye to Will forever.
Author Interview:
Did
you always know you wanted to be a writer or did you want to be something
else?
I’ve known that I wanted to be a writer since I was about eight years old. I chose to go into communications/marketing because I knew it was a career where I would have the chance to write. And while I wasn’t writing fiction, it still taught me a lot about meeting deadlines and writing cleanly and concisely, as well as keeping an audience interested — all things that have translated into my career as an author.

How
long does it take you to write a book from start to finish?
Now that I’m writing full-time, it takes me about four months to write a young adult book and around two months for a middle grade. When I was working, it would take me at least six months to write the first draft of a young adult book.

Do
you have a schedule of when you write?
Since I’ve started writing full-time, I treat it like a job. I’m usually at my desk around 9am. I’ll work until about 3pm, and then sometimes in the evenings and weekends if I’m on a deadline.

How
are you able to balance other aspects of your life with your writing?
Finding balance was a lot trickier
when I was working full-time and commuting to my job. My family and I made the
decision to move across the country last year so I could focus my energy on
writing full-time. It’s been a great lifestyle change and I’m so happy that we
took the leap.
What was the hardest thing about writing a book?
The hardest thing for me is the first draft. I have a very loud internal editor, so it’s difficult for me to just write without picking at every sentence or questioning the direction I’m taking. I’m getting better at this, but it’s still a struggle.

How
many books have you written so far? Do you have a favorite?
I have written eight books, three of which have been published, and another is set to come out next year. All my books are my favorite, but for different reasons. WESLEY JAMES RUINED MY LIFE was my debut and I loved writing about Tudor Times, my fictional medieval restaurant. WHEN LIFE GIVES YOUDEMONS was really fun and I like the paranormal aspect and JUST MY LUCK is set in Maui, one of my favorite places on earth, so that was really fun to write as well.
Where do you write?
I’m lucky enough to have a home office. I have a beautiful view of farmland from my office window, which is extra nice.

What
kinds of things do you like to do outside of writing?
When I’m not writing, I’m usually thinking about writing (sad, but true), either about the book I’m currently working on or what I’m going to work on next. I like to spend time with my husband and daughter, walking, biking, just being outdoors. I love to read and watch movies.

What
kinds of advice would you give to someone who wants to start writing?
I
would tell anyone seriously considering a career as a writer to keep writing.
In general, you need to put a lot of time in before you get good at it. And reading
is just as important — read all genres, find out what genres fits your voice
best and what gets you the most excited, and study how the authors have written
those books.
Are
you working on anything now?
I’m currently deep in revisions for my fourth book for Swoon Reads, which will be released next summer. I’m also working on a middle grade book.
If you could travel anywhere in the world to visit a place so you could use it as a background for a book, where would it be?

Oh, there are so many places I’d like to visit! And I
love fresh settings for novels. I would love to go to Sweden, I think that
would be a great setting for a book. And I love Scotland, so eventually I’d
like to write something set in Edinburgh. I’m also really interested in the
southern US. I’ll be travelling there this summer, so you never know, maybe
inspiration will strike!
Author Bio:
Jennifer Honeybourn works in corporate communications in Vancouver, British Columbia. She’s a fan of British accents, Broadway musicals, and epic, happily-ever-after love stories. If she could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, she’d have high tea with Walt Disney, JK Rowling, and her nana. She lives with her husband, daughter and cat in a house filled with books. Wesley James Ruined My Life is her first novel.
I have read all three of Honeybourn's book, and I'm a fan. This one was fun and cute, but also dealt with some real issues. I can't believe she can write a whole book in about 4 months.
