Tess Kendrick, teen fixer extraordinaire, returns in a pulse-pounding thriller about a deadly conspiracy at the heart of Washington.
For Tess Kendrick, a junior at the elite Hardwicke School in Washington D.C., fixing runs in the family. But Tess has another legacy, too, one that involves power and the making of political dynasties. When Tess is asked to run a classmate's campaign for student council, she agrees. But when the candidates are children of politicians, even a high school election can involve life-shattering secrets.
Meanwhile, Tess's guardian has also taken on an impossible case, as a terrorist attack calls into doubt who can--and cannot--be trusted on Capitol Hill. Tess knows better than most that power is currency in D.C., but she's about to discover first-hand that power always comes with a price.
Perfect for fans of Harlan Coben and Ally Carter, the second book in this thrilling series will leave readers breathless.

Q&A
1)
You're going to be trapped on an island for three months, what 5
things do you bring?
An extremely thick notebook, a big
package of pens, a comfortable pillow, sunscreen, and someone who knows how to
survive on an island.
2)
If you were not an author, what would you choose to be?
I actually already have a dual
career! By day, I’m a psychology professor at the University of Oklahoma. In
addition to teaching classes, I also run a research lab, where I study the
psychology of fiction and why we like it.
3)
What are the three places you must travel to in this lifetime?
Italy, Alaska, and Hogwarts (hey, a
girl can dream)
4)
Do you have a bucket list? Tell us some things on it.
I tend to focus more on the near
future than “some day.” So I’ll say that a few of the things on my “sometime in
the next five years list” include writing a pop science book on the psychology
of fandom, hearing my baby say his first word, and finding a way to get a puppy
even though I’m allergic to puppies.
5)
You own 100 acres of land, what's on it?
Hopefully, lots of puppies.
6)
Do you like amusement parks? If so, what is your favorite ride?
Is “cotton candy” a ride?
7)
Can you cook? What do you cook best?
I may or may not have set more than
one oven on fire. So my immediate answer was “something that does not require
an oven.” And my answer, after a bit more thought, is “guacamole.”
8)
If you could only own one car for the rest of your life (no
matter the price), what would it be?
I tend to get emotionally attached to
cars, so I would pick my current car. Her name is Elsa. She has seat warmers
(which is why I named her Elsa—I spent the week I got her turning on the seat
warmers and singing about how unbothered I was by the cold.)
9)
You're back in high-school, what crowd do you hang with? Why?
People who I like who also like me.
High school probably would have been more fun if I’d done that the first time
around.
10) You're going on a blind date, what is the best place to go and
why?
Jennifer Lynn Barnes (who mostly goes by Jen) was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She has been, in turn, a competitive cheerleader, a volleyball player, a dancer, a debutante, a primate cognition researcher, a teen model, a comic book geek, and a lemur aficionado. She's been writing for as long as she can remember, finished her first full book (which she now refers to as a "practice book" and which none of you will ever see) when she was still in high school, and then wrote Golden the summer after her freshman year in college, when she was nineteen.
Jen graduated high school in 2002, and from Yale University with a degree in cognitive science (the study of the brain and thought) in May of 2006. She'll be spending the 2006-2007 school year abroad, doing autism research at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
