About THE PROBLEM WITH FOREVER:
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes a riveting new story about friendship, survival, and finding your voice.
For some people, silence is a weapon.
For Mallory “Mouse” Dodge, it’s a shield.
Growing up, she learned that the best way to survive was to say nothing. And even though it’s been four years since her nightmare ended, she’s beginning to worry that the fear that holds her back will last a lifetime.
Now, after years of homeschooling with loving adoptive parents, Mallory must face a new milestone—spending her senior year at public high school. But of all the terrifying and exhilarating scenarios she’s imagined, there’s one she never dreamed of—that she’d run into Rider Stark, the friend and protector she hasn’t seen since childhood, on her very first day.
It doesn’t take long for Mallory to realize that the connection she shared with Rider never really faded. Yet the deeper their bond grows, the more it becomes apparent that she’s not the only one grappling with lingering scars from the past. And as she watches Rider’s life spiral out of control, Mallory must make a choice between staying silent and speaking out—for the people she loves, the life she wants, and the truths that need to be heard.
Brooke's Review:
I want to thank Harlequin Teen for providing me with a copy of this book to read and give an honest review. Receiving this book for free has in no way altered my opinion or review.
I have been a fan of Armentrout for a long time. And she doesn't disappoint with her poignant stories. There's always something so real about her characters and their situations. Which is what draws me to read them. So this book was no exception.
Armentrout hits on a topic I haven't read about before: Foster children. I don't know much about this topic, so it was interesting to watch the story unfold and learn a bit.
I enjoyed Mallory's character. I like that she comes out of her shell during the entirety of the book. She really learns who she is and how to handle herself. And she goes from stomping pad to a young woman who is not afraid to stand up for herself and her wants. The growth was really fascinating.
Rider is, of course, a swoon worthy male lead. The background he has with Mallory helps to solidify his feelings for her. They have been through so much together it is no surprise they have such a solid connection. Of course he has his own secrets which mallory believes she understands, even if she's wrong.
I did have a bit of a hard time connecting with the characters. I believe it was because I just don't understand this type of situation. I've never been exposed to it. I needed a bit more information on the system than I was given.
I liked the relationship between Mallory and Carl and Rosa. It was nice to see Mallory in this safe environment after learning about her past. The same can be said for Rider. However, his situation is a bit more complicated (and I don't want to spoil things).
The pacing in this book was slower than I would have anticipated. I was waiting for a bit more action to happen. At the same time, I understand why it didn't. It certainly wasn't a book for such things. It was more about the emotions of the characters and how they grow and change and relate to one another. It's about the heartbreak they endure and their ability to survive and move on from situations that threaten to destroy them.
Armentrout has managed to write a unique story with characters who are full of heartbreak and damage. If you're a fan of Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles, then you will enjoy the story that has been crafted in The Problem With Forever.

Thanks for hosting this great sounding book. Just like all Armentrout books, it is going on my wishlist. The thing I like best about myself is my sense of humor and the thing I wish people knew was that I don't take things personally or too seriously
