Synopsis:
There’s a meteor headed for Earth, and there is only one way to survive.
With her criminal record, sixteen-year-old Char is never going to get a place on an Ark, one of the five massive bioships designed to protect Earth’s survivors. The Arks are reserved for the real goody-goodies, like Char’s mom, dad, and brother, all of whom have long since turned their backs on her.
With Earth on the brink of destruction, Char must use all her tricks of the trade to swindle her way into outer space, where she hopes to reunite with her family, regardless of whether they want to see her or not.
Once she arrives on the North American Ark, Char discovers that the remnants of humanity haven’t achieved the egalitarian utopia they’d planned for. For starters, the “Officers of the Peace” are anything but peaceful, especially since stealing a spot on an Ark is a crime punishable by death…

"What are your top ten
favorite foods?"
Oh gosh. I love food,
so the challenge here will be to limit it to ten things. I’ll give it a go,
though.
1.My parents grow lots of fruit behind their house, and it’s all just fine,
but the best food on the entire planet is from their fig trees. Nothing else
comes close. They don’t taste like any other figs I’ve ever had, either, and
they only grow for three weeks a year. I can eat like a whole trees’ worth in a
single day, so that’s probably for the best.
2.Steak. Pittsburgh black. My granddaddy was a cattle farmer, so I’ve had some great
steak in my day, but my husband’s are the absolute best. He puts them in the
sous-vide with some herbs from his garden for a couple hours, then sears both
sides really fast. SO perfect.
3.Chocolate. 72% cacao. Sea salt
is a value-add here.
4.Peanut butter. Not gonna lie,
this is kinda the perfect food. With chocolate, or honey, or on an apple. OR
with plain yogurt. I am so hungry right now.
5.Shout-out to Char, my main
character: I love grilled cheese, too.
6.Sharp cheddar with a little
honey on top.
7.Actually, all cheese.
8.Pizza. I love all toppings
except sausage. Sausage should be eaten on toast with jam. Fun fact: yesterday,
I lost an argument with a three-year-old over whether peanut butter is an
acceptable pizza topping. Toddlers are usually completely insane, but sometimes
you get these random bursts of cold, clear logic: I like peanut butter. I like pizza. Why can’t I have peanut butter on
my pizza? I’m still trying to recover from that one.
9.Strawberry jam from Shady
Acres in Seminary, MS. It has three ingredients, all perfect.
10.Here’s a guilty pleasure: Once a year, on Christmas morning, I eat those
cinnamon rolls that pop open when you slam them on a counter. They are mostly
made of sugar, and I can eat at least four in one go. I seriously dream about
this all year long, too.
11.Bonus food! Roasted Brussels
sprouts. Surprisingly delightful.
