My wrist aches but I push through it and stand just in time
to get blown backwards by another dropping bomb. It slammed into the wall and
swelled out to me.
The noise of concrete falling is shattering. It wails like a
clap of thunder does when it lands within arms reach. This time my ears hum and
sing the high-pitched siren squeal that means a part of them are dying. I’ll
never hear the same again.
Smoke wraps around me the same way it did my craft after I
slammed it nose first into the wall months ago. The thick black smoke closes
in, burning my nostrils and eyes. My hands shake as I lift my shirt to shield
myself.
The fabric just covers my mouth as I’m blasted from above by
a cutting light. It’s a hovercraft and the light beams bounce around me until
I’m directly in its path. This must be how it ends I think as I drop to my
knees.
“Show no resistance and you won’t be harmed,” a voice echoes
from the craft.
I can’t make out the base from where I’m kneeling. I rise to
my feet to get a better view. An electric net wraps around me. It closes its
grip and slams my body against the hardened ground before it scoops me towards
the craft.
The electric barbs cause spasms in my muscles sending me into
a state of rigidity. I’m stiffen as the coursing electricity stabs my body.
‘Not be harmed’ I think to myself as my skin feels the jabs. I’ve been caught
and this is just the beginning.

grew up in Maine and later moved to Pennsylvania where she obtained her
bachelor’s degree from Ursinus College. She later received her doctorate degree
