First I must mention the cover of this book. I love it. It so fits the theme. And it's so nice to see a cover with something other than the characters on the front (as I like to form my own opinions of what the characters look like).

This book picks up directly where the first left off. Faith has been introduced to her powers and she has learned to use them to her advantage.

This series continues to fascinate me. It's really quite different from anything I have ever read. A mixture of dystopian and sci fi, it breeches limits I thought never could exist. If you are a fan of Xmen or Mafi's Shatter Me series or Bracken's Dangerous Minds series, then you will certainly be intrigued by Carme's Pulse series.

Faith continues to be totally driven by revenge in this sequel. She wants more than anything to destroy both Clara and Gretchen. But she also wants to try hard to keep her revenge ideas a secret. So she only trusts her plan to Hawk, which is no surprising seeing as they have formed a fairly close relationship. She spends her time in this book separated by Dylan, her one true love, but it seems to work to the advantage of the book (as far as creating tension is concerned). Her anger is almost palpable in this book. She continues to remain strong and independent and is determined to overcome the evil she has been witnessing.

Dylan, on the other hand, is totally in control. He puts himself in a precarious spot, so he can help his friends. He is willing to sacrifice himself so that the others may survive. While you see more of a selfish streak in Faith, Dylan is completely unselfish and chooses to sacrifice himself for the betterment of his friends and those he loves. And we get a lot of Dylan's background in this story: who is father is, where he came from, etc.

Clara and Wade continue to be evil. Clara believes she can win Dylan over, and Wade continues to seriously crush on Faith to the determent of himself.

You certainly get to see more of Clooger, Meredith, Hawk, Gretchen and Andre in this book. It's interesting to watch their personalities develop further. I continue to love Hawk; he is still my favorite character in this series. He's funny and quirky and you just want to be in his head. I love that he thinks he's going crazy (and in the end, well, a surprise hits you that you were not expecting).

The plot moves in this one. There are a lot action scenes as well as emotional scenes. It really kept the pace of the book moving, which is really important for this book. The intensity and action keep you on their toes. It kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next.

I think the thing that I liked most about this book is that it left things open for another edition to the series while it still had a complete story ARC. It's hard to come to a conclusion in the second book in a series without wanting to give a bit of cliffhanger for the next.

I'm excited to see where Carmen takes the next book for sure!ll their love survive?
