What if your whole world was a lie?
What if a single revelation—like a single choice—changed everything?
What if love and loyalty made you do things you never expected?
The faction-based society that Tris Prior once believed in is shattered—fractured by violence and power struggles and scarred by loss and betrayal. So when offered a chance to explore the world past the limits she’s known, Tris is ready. Perhaps beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a simple new life together, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties, and painful memories.
But Tris’s new reality is even more alarming than the one she left behind. Old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless. Explosive new truths change the hearts of those she loves. And once again, Tris must battle to comprehend the complexities of human nature—and of herself—while facing impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love.

The Cover Contessa's Review:
Wow...I need time to process, but I will tell you I was a blubbering fool for the last 50 pages of this book.
So, I let myself process and I'm still keeping my 5 stars. Despite some of the faults I found with the book, overall I really felt it was truly a great conclusion to this series.
In the hopes of keeping this review spoiler free, I am pretty sure it's going to be shorter than most of what I write.
If you want a book that is going to totally tug at your heart strings and make your feelings fly all over the place, then I'm pretty sure this book will hit the mark.
The character development in this one is fantastic. My favorite part was actually getting inside Tobias's (Four's ) head. For the longest time we saw Four through Tris's eyes, and as we all know that can't really show us what a character is truly about. Having Four reveal to us what he's thinking, feeling, wanting, was just incredible and really gave a whole new flavor to this series.
As for Tris, she kind of annoyed me in this book. As usually she's a bit selfish, always thinking that she's thinking of others but never actually doing it. It was a bit frustrating, but I think all in all she was coming from a good place and really wanted to the best for everyone she loved.
The plot, well it's certainly a twist I was not expecting. I have read a few dystopian's recently that took this turn of events, but not in such a way that kept me totally enthralled. The explanation for the factions, how they were formed and why, it totally turned me around and had me walking backward! I was not expecting it. And the pacing was perfect. I was never bored, I always wanted more and I really didn't want to put the book down.
There is so much controversy over how Roth decided to end this series. And, while it broke my heart to read the things she wrote, I give her so much credit for going there and doing what she needed she felt to do to bring this saga to a close. It's artistic license and it's amazing. Will people hate her for it, sure. Will people understand her for it, some will some won't. But it really doesn't matter in the long run what others think because it's what was necessary in her eyes and that's what really matters. The chance she takes is amazing and I totally get down on bended knee and praise her for it!
Here is my thought to those who are upset: It's a DYSTOPIAN world, things cannot be perfect, having a happily ever after is UNREALISTIC and if you feel like that's what you want, perhaps reading a different sub-genre would be more your style. Roth truly hurt me with this book, but it was necessary. Recently I have been let down by the ends of the trilogies I have been reading. They have not met my expectations at all. But this book, well, this one shot me right back to wanting to read trilogies again.
Bravo Ms. Roth. I can't wait to see what you come up with next!
