HOLY HAWT ALIENS!
He’s arrogant, domineering, and... To. Die. For.
Hunter is a ruthless killer. And the Department of Defense has him firmly in their grasp, which usually doesn’t chafe too badly because he gets to kill bad guys. Most of the time he enjoys his job. That is, until he’s saddled with something he’s never had to do before: protect a human from his mortal enemy.
Serena Cross didn’t believe her best friend when she claimed to have seen the son of a powerful senator turn into something... unnatural. Who would? But then she witnesses her friend’s murder at the hands of what can only be an alien, thrusting her into a world that will kill to protect their secret.
Hunter stirs Serena’s temper and her lust despite their differences. Soon he’s doing the unthinkable—breaking the rules he’s lived by, going against the government to keep Serena safe. But are the aliens and the government the biggest threats to Serena’s life… or is it Hunter?

The Cover Contessa's Review:
So, is there anything that Jennifer L. Armentrout (J. Lynn)
writes that I won't like? I don't think so. So of course this is no exception.
Of course, going into it I thought for sure I would be unhappy. After all, I
don't like the Arum. I don't want to like the Arum. They are the bad guys. The
ones after Daemon and Kat. The ones making their lives a mess. Right?
So what to say about a JLA cover. This one is amazing. Sexy
man, sexy woman...you know it's gonna be hot. And believe me, the cover pays
off. I do have some qualms with the fact that they are portrayed as the same
size. The book distinctly tells us that Serena is quite a bit shorter than
Hunter, so it's odd that they stand even on the cover.
Is there a male main character that Jennifer writes that I
don't like? Nope there's not. Hunter is no exception. He's so totally full of
himself you want to smack him across his face. His arrogance flows right off
the page and hits you full on. And yet, you watch him change during this book.
Sure, the arrogance remains, but his flippant ways with humans also changes. He
becomes more tolerant of them. And yet, I'm not sure that is the correct word,
he tolerates humans but he certainly changes during the course of the novel and
becomes more human himself. He's a bad boy, but his heart is good and he
doesn't realize it until he meets Serena.
Serena, well, she's a spunky and full of energy. She knows
who she is. She also knows that Hunter is an arrogant jerk who was sent to
protect her. And, while she's annoyed by his arrogance, she still feels a pull
towards him that she can't explain. But she knows it's wrong, because he's an
alien, and who would be stupid enough to fall for one, right?
Their chemistry is totally undeniable during this book. You
feel it pulsing off the page. It's hot and raw and full of tension.
And who can resist Jennifer's writing style? It's there as
it is in all her books. Snarky remarks, funny moments, action through and
through. Her writing is totally engrossing. She has not written a book that I
have wanted to put down yet! Her style is unique and seeps off the page and
right into your head. She's able to create characters that are realistic and
true, and totally believable.
And the plot line is such a twist from the Lux you know. It
moves you in behind the scenes of the bad guy and makes you love them, makes
you want them to win! And you see a side of the Luxen that you thought you
would never see, making you wonder exactly how this will affect what happens in
Origin. And, while Jennifer says you don't need to read this in order for the series
to be complete and you can read this as a stand alone if you don't know the Lux
series, I love that I was able to make connections having read the series
already. And I love that I will be able to see some of what is touched upon in
this book in Origin. I think having been acquainted with this world, it gave me
a better understanding of what was going on.
This book is a bit dark and quite seductive. What I loved
most is that while there were many steamy moments, there was still a back story
that was import and played out through the entire book. Lovers of JLA will not
be disappointed!
5/5 Stars
All the rumors you heard about her state aren’t true.
Well, mostly. When she's not hard at work writing, she spends her time, reading, working out, watching zombie movies, and pretending to write.
She is the author of the Covenant Series (Spencer Hill Press), the Lux Series (Entangled Teen), Don't Look Back (Disney/Hyperion) and a yet untitled novel (Disney/Hyperion), and new YA paranormal series with Harlequin Teen.
Jennifer also writes New Adult and Adult romance under the pen name J. Lynn. The Gamble Brothers Series (Tempting the Best Man/Tempting the Player) and Wait for You. Under her pen name, she is published with Entangled Brazen and HarperCollins.
LOVED this book. Since Lux is coming to us on the big screen I really think they have to have an Obsession movie too ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm still iffy on this one. Don't get me wrong, I love JLA's writing, particularly the Lux series. But I'm so in love with Obsidian! Then again, I'm probably also one of the few fans not thrilled about the movie. I'm afraid it won't be anything like I imagined. :(
ReplyDelete<3 Daemon!
