Welcome to The Cover Contessa's blog tour stop for Rachel Harris's
Have you heard about this most awesome book?
When chef Colby Robicheaux returned home to New Orleans to save her family restaurant, the last person she expected to reconnect with was her brother’s best friend and her childhood crush. As tempting as a sugar-coated beignet, Jason is one dish she doesn’t want to taste. Colby is counting down the days till she can leave the place where her distrust of love and commitment originated and go back to Vegas.
Fire captain Jason Landry isn’t looking for love, either. He knows he should focus on finding the perfect mother for his daughter, but when he first sees Colby, all grown up and gorgeous, he can’t help but be drawn to her. And when she suggests a no-strings-attached fling, Jason doesn’t want to say no.
As their relationship grows more intense, Colby finds that Jason isn’t as easy to leave behind as she thought. Could turning up the heat on something real be worth the possibility of getting burned?
Rachel is doing a little guest post for our tour stop! So, you want to hear what it is about book covers that gets her roaring to go?
Holy Hot Book Covers! Man, I admit that when it comes to books, a good cover gets me every time. If it’s particularly yummy, I hardly even pay attention to the blurb. I one-click with the best of them, ordering it so I can smile at my virtual bookshelf. And yes, I do go back and just grin at some of my favorites. (Am I the only one who does this?)
When it came to Taste the Heat’s cover, I filled out my cover art form like the good author that I am, and then I hoped. I prayed. And I worried. A lot. A good cover is so important to snagging a reader’s attention—I’m a complete and utter book word, so I know! As I was getting ready to leave for a family vacation (Disney cruises rock, y’all. Just sayin’), I had a hunch my cover would be coming in soon. So I hit refresh on my inbox at least a dozen times. Refresh, refresh, refresh. But it didn’t come in.
So, I went on my fabulous trip, read a ton of books that made me swoon and sigh and melt in a puddle of happy reader-ness, and then the boat docked back in Texas. After getting my beautiful girls off the ship, my parents, daughters, and I waited for my husband to drive around with the car, and I decided to turn on my phone. The amount of emails I racked up in a week was staggering so I decided to ignore those, and check out Twitter instead. Of course, I had a bazillion tweets, too, but I noticed one of them was from my editor.
I must interrupt the story to stress that I was standing right in the front of the building. There was a very large crowd gathered around us.
My editor’s tweet was about her waiting for my reaction to my cover. EEP! Wide-eyed and suddenly frantic—I don’t know why, I just was—I flipped back to my inbox and proceeded to scroll through hundreds of emails until I found it. The email with my cover. My first adult romance cover. Something that had the potential of making or breaking my debut. (*insert deep breaths here*)
I ignored the questioning looks of my family and clicked it open.
And there it was. My cover! And I FREAKING LOVED IT!
It was cute. It was fun. It was sexy. The girl actually looked almost exactly how I pictured Colby. And Jason looked pretty hot, too. It was a cover I was proud to have my name on…and look at that! It’s right there in bright white at the top!
This was really happening. My fun, sexy story was really being published. And as I smiled down at my phone, I knew that if I randomly came across the image of that cover, I’d one-click it with the best of them. And I couldn’t ask for more than that.
Tell me, y’all. What covers make YOU one-click? Do they have to have anything special, a similar theme? I’d love to know!
When not typing furiously or flipping pages in an enthralling romance, I homeschool my two beautiful girls and watch reality television with my amazing husband.
I write YA, NA, and Adult Fun & Flirty Escapes. Taste The Heat is my adult romance debut, and I'm also the author of MY SUPER SWEET SIXTEENTH CENTURY and A TALE OF TWO CENTURIES, as well as a ton of other books to come. I love hearing from readers and dishing books!

I too one-click those cute sexy covers, I wont even pay attention to the blurb or ratings and at times if there are some down rating I'll just brush them of saying "I always liked what people do not tend to like so I should give it a try" and there I get the book :)
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing ;)
