So, time for me to tell you about BEA Day #2!
The day started out so amazingly great. D'vora and I were invited to attend the Harlequin Teen Blogger Breakfast where authors Julie Kagawa, Katie McGarry, Amanda Sun and Elizabeth Scott would be in attendance. I was nervous but completely honored to be on this list for sure! There were about 60-70 bloggers in attendance and look at all the books they stacked for us in the middle of the tables (copies of The Eternity Cure, Ink, Pushing the Limits, Dare to You, Alice in Zombieland, The Lost Prince, Iron Fey Series. Every blogger also got a bag with a copy of Ink, The Eternity Cure, Dare to You, Heartbeat and swag :

The Harlequin team did something really great, the did a round robin where the authors, publicists and editors took 5 minute turns at every table in the room.

Afterward, we all just stood around and talked and took pictures with the authors while they signed our books!
After the breakfast, D'vora and I rushed up to the BEA floor to start our book hunting and our author searching! We stopped by the Spencer Hill Press booth first to get our copies of Extracted, which is one of my most highly anticipated SHP books of the year! Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures, grrrr! I'm hoping Spencer Hill Press posts some on their page!
This was my most anticipated book that I wanted to make sure to acquire, and I got TWO! I ran over after SHP's first signing to make sure I scooped one up as I told Anita (the author) I had to have one! It's a paperback of Splintered by A.G. Howard with a back cover of the second book's cover, Unhinged and the first chapter is also included (which is AMAZING btw!)
After lunch we returned to the room to drop our load and D'vora laid our snarffed books out on the bed and took a picture! 25-28 books a piece in only a few hours! LOL!
When we returned to the exhibit hall, we got to see the cover reveal of Erica Cameron's book:
Sing Sweet Nightengale (The Dream War Saga, Book 1). Her cover model was there, too!
Later I snarffed this awesome book that I know Kayleigh from K-Books is totally jealous I have! And I also snapped a picture of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid bus! I also stopped by Penguin where I met with publicist Elena Stokes who took my card and promised to send me some sweet YA books to review! We visited all the other major publisher booths as well: Harper Collins, Hachette, Random House, Simon and Schuster, McMillan, Scolastic, Disney and Source Books.
After going back to the room for a brief rest, we contacted our friend Trisha Woodridge from Spencer Hill Press to see what they were doing for dinner. We walked over to the restaurant with her, but there wasn't enough space for us. So D'vora and I, along with Sherry Ficklin (author of Extracted to D'vora's left) and Michelle Pickett (author of PODs to my right) went to a tapas place for some grub!
We were all totally exhausted after dinner (which, while the food was good, the place was LOUD and gave Sherry a major migraine), so we went back to the hotel and just relaxed so we'd be ready for the next day! It was a whirlwind where we made tons of new friends, met some major publicists, got some awesome author autographs, and totally enjoyed ourselves
Stay tuned for BEA Day #3 tomorrow!
Brooke,
ReplyDeleteThis is so great to read all about your experiences at this place-to-be, you've-hit-it-big conference of authors and publishing houses. What a dream! My question to you is do all these authors give you free books? I can't imagine buying all those paperbacks that you did, so I'm thinking they must give them out. How does it work?
Yes, the books are free, you do not have to buy them. One of the points of the conference is for publishers and authors to get their books out there. They want them reviewed and posted so there's more hype and people want to buy them when they come out. Almost all the books I got are ARCs, tho there are a few that were already published.
DeleteFun times! I'm a bit jealous about that blogger breakfast.
ReplyDeleteIt was awesome! I was so honored, and actually very surprised, to received an invitation.
DeleteWow. Lots and lots of fun. :D
ReplyDeleteIt was!

ReplyDeleteAshley, I was so surprised to get the invitation. BTW, it was so great to meet you! I wish we would have taken a picture!
