HOLY C***! I am WITHOUT words to describe that! I have to brew and come back...HOLY C***!
I received an ARC of this totally amazing book from Jennifer herself when I saw her at YA Fest 2012. I am SO happy I was able to get this book! I don't think I could have stopped at Pure. I want to thank Jennifer with all my heart for being at YA Fest 2012!
Ok, so I had to sit on this a bit before I could write anything, it was that good. It was that enthralling. It was that captivating. I have to say that this is HANDS DOWN THE BEST Convenant book as of yet! Once again, Armentrout takes us into the world of Pures and Halfs and pushes and pulls us through a ride that has your brain rattling and spinning and your heart racing out of control. This book is EPIC.

"History is on repeat, and things didn't go so well the last time. "
Alexandria isn't sure she's going to make it to her eighteenth birthday--to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she's a goner... and so is Aiden.
If that's not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training"--which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time--she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.
But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she's caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed... and destroyed.
Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate...
Once again, Alex (Alexandria) is one of the most kick butt heroines there is out there. She is tough as nails, and she's not afraid to put herself in situations that will help save others. She repeatedly tries to sacrifice herself so that others may be at peace. It astounds me. At the same time, this drives all her friends, family, and others who love her INSANE. They see it as selfish, but I don't think she's being selfish. She's being a Sentinal, she's being who she is trained to be. I complete and totally connect with this character. I want to be her, although I'm not 100% sure I would want to be on her emotional roller coaster, it might tear my heart apart!
And Aiden, oh Aiden, what can I say. He's sexy and cute and so powerful with his actions. At the same time he is a bit wishy washy, not sure where to take himself (does he give in to what he knows to be true in his heart or does he ignore it thinking it is the only way to protect those he loves). His struggle is heart wrenching and disturbing. I get annoyed that he leads Alex on, only to push her away, pretending there is nothing there between them. Yet in his heart he knows they are meant to be. He revealed that to us early on in his chapters from Half Blood. There is such a connection between them, that goes beyond what Alex has with Seth because of their being Apollyon. And we find out more about Aiden's family and the story of how they ended up dying. It's sad and made me all teary, but made me totally understand Aiden and his need to keep people at such a distance.
And Seth, well, I loved him in Pure. I was routing for him. I still feel he's in there, but he takes a bit of a turn in this book. One that I thought might be there, but I didn't think would be so drastic. He certainly cares for Alex, but he has some weird ways of showing it. And he is so taken with others, he lets that completely cloud his judgement. He leads with power not his heart. This puts him in a situation that blinds him.
The supporting characters are, as always, amazing. I love love love Leon. He's funny and stoic. And he is something we never thought he would be! Marcus shows more of his true colors, changing his reactions to Alex, which are surprising to say the least. Lucian and Minister Telly, well, they just a villains, that's all I'm gonna say about them.
The storyline takes you a roller coaster ride for sure. It is non-stop action from beginning to end. And if there's not action, there's romance. Heart pounding, jaw dropping romance. And believe me, you will not be disappointed at all in either of these things throughout the book. Armentrout really knows how to keep you on your toes. And the twists that the story takes, well, some are expected, but others are a total and complete surprise, taking the story in a direction you never thought it would go. And the ending, POW! I was not expecting her to end it right there, such a cliffhanger! I wanted to throw the book across the room, but not in a bad way, in a HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME I NEED THE NEXT BOOK NOW kind of way. The plot had me invested in this story from the first page through the last.
And Armentrout's writing does not falter. She is completely consistent, which I LOVE about her. You can expect it to be neat and put together with language that is easy and draws you in. Her descriptions are spot on, so much so that I can see each and every scene clearly in my mind. I can imagine myself there. And, there is no doubt in my mind that I see a movie when I imagine this. And she has a way of sucking you right into her stories from the very start. You do not want to put her stuff down (this goes for the Lux series as well and Cursed, all of which I finished almost immediately). Her writing is literally addicting, like a drug, I cannot put it down. I am awed by how amazing she is *bows down*.
All in all, definitely the best of this series so far. I can't see how Armentrout can make it any better, but I don't doubt in any way that she will. I am officially DYING to read Elixer! I can't wait to get my copy. And to have to wait until Spring 2013 for Apollyon, I just might go nuts before then, that's how much I love this series.
If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would!
